The connection from Berlin (Germany) to Szczecin (Poland) on the Baltic Sea forms a part of the Trans-European network of inland waterways. In order to enable the passage of modern ships through this waterway, the construction of the new ship-lifting plant was included into the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan and is considered a measure in the anti-congestion programme.

The construction cost of the total plant will amount to about EUR285m, they will be borne by the Federal Government. SIEMAG TECBERG is the know-how partner who will contributes with its knowledge-based services, such as project management, procurement and erection management. In addition, SIEMAG TECBERG is responsible for the engineering and procurement as well as quality assurance of all machinery construction volumes, such as the trough supporting and guiding installations, the counterweight installation with 112 double rope sheaves as well as the trough securing installation and the trough drive.
